Interview with Emily Torres
Question 1: When did you begin drawing?
Answer: “I’ve been drawing ever since I could hold a pencil.”
Question 2: How long does it take you on average to finish a drawing?
Answer: “It all depends on the medium and the amount of detail in the drawing. My etchings typically take about a month to finish but pen drawings usually only take a day or two.”
Question 3: Do enjoy drawing indoors or outdoors and why?
Answer: “I enjoy drawing both indoors and outdoors but I most frequently draw inside. I find that drawing indoors allows more time to plan and be more precise with details while drawing outdoors gives me the opportunity to be more loose and free with my art. They both have their benefits and I think it’s important to experience both as much as possible.”
Question 4: What do you look for when you’re looking for something to draw?
Answer: “I look for things that interest me or catch my eye. I’m always drawn to subjects that I can include a lot of detail in.”
Question 5: What artists influence you the most?
Answer: “I’m most influenced by artists such as Heinrich Kley and Neva Hosking but I think my teacher has made the biggest impact on me as an artist.”
Question 6: What do you have to say to somebody that wants to advance their drawing skills?
Answer: “Draw consistently and embrace your failures. Take classes if you’re able to and always try to draw from life. The best way to train your eye to see accurately and draw realistically is to draw what is directly in front of you.”
