Interview with Patrick Clelland
Question 1: What is your name?
Answer: “My name is Patrick Clelland.”
Question 2: Where did you grow up?
Answer: “I grew up in Sydney, Australia where I live today.”
Question 3: Do you find creative breaks important? If so, why?
Answer: “Absolutely. In the sense that you shouldn’t force yourself to create. If the motivation is missing, it’s better to be patient and wait for it to come. For me personally, time out shooting is very relaxing and I always look forward to it.”
Question 4: Do you find yourself getting inspired by other art forms?
Answer: “Definitely. Movies, music, books, fashion and styles are all interconnected. Photography is a good way to pull lots of things together at once.”
Question 5: Let’s talk about your recent series that you have been working on in Australia. How is that going?
Answer: “I’m shooting a big series on Sydney which I hope will show as many sides of the place as possible. Sometimes I think it’s finished, and sometimes I think it’s not even half finished. I keep asking myself what a series about a city should actually tell and wonder if I’m completely off track. So I’d saying it’s going OK at best.”
Question 6: What are some things you learned from this project so far?
Answer: “Take your time. Change direction if you need to. Always seek feedback from others because it’s impossible to view your own work objectively.”
Question 7: What is your definition of passion?
Answer: “When the thrill of the chase takes you out of your comfort zone before you even realized.”
